By using the Kepler space telescope, NASA has begun to search and identify Earth-like planets in other planetary systems. As it stands, they have already located at least 22 planets that have similar climatic conditions and atmospheres as Earth, meaning they could be potentially suitable for human habitation. Whatmore, the Kepler space telescope was launched over a decade ago, though technology and capabilities have advanced a significant amount, prompting the demand for a further advanced telescope. This is why NASA plans to launch the James Webb space telescope in 2021, enabling us to take a closer look at the atmospheres in closely located planets, and further increase our chances of the colonisation of habitable planets.
Although the purpose of colonising habitable planets is to for civilisation to survive there, one of the most important roles of our mission is to conduct space mining. This is because we are slowly running out of natural resources and materials, which is where our program will enable us to mine and obtain a considerable amount of minerals and metals with ease. These resources can then be used for future projects, as well as to sell in order to generate funds to further increase our development activities.
